GlobeSoft | mnm home page The 21st century Internet generation is mobile, flexible and demand network access when moving around. The benefits are obvious, but the technical complexity for the end-user is increasing. We need more than just a movable laptop. We need our laptop to connect to the Internet, corporate LANs and home networks. And to do this securely we need to deal not only with connectivity barriers but also with enabling, disabling and configuring VPNs, personal firewalls, proxies, e-mail clients etc. in Public bookmarkswith 21stcenturydemandflexiblegenerationinternetmobilenetwork

Mail merge in OpenOffice.org The office where I am network administrator switched most users to OpenOffice.org (OOo) back at version 1.1, and has followed the upgrade process to the current version 2.3 (a few poor users who have to exchange documents outside the office with high fidelity are still clinging to their MS Office 97). Our receptionist does a lot of general secretarial duties, including lots of letters, envelopes, and labels that involve mail merge. Since this seems to be a sticking point for many people, I am putting everything I have learned from helping her and have gleaned from various sources on the Internet together in this tutorial. in Public bookmarkswith 1.1administratornetworkofficeoooswitchedusersversion

ourmon - PSU DMZ network Ourmon is an open-source network management and anomaly detection system. It collects data using both multiple instances of the Berkeley Packet Filter, and also various hashed top N lists and then displays the data using RRDTOOL graphs, histograms, and perl reports. Data is produced in near realtime every thirty seconds. Hourly reports are also produced from some of the top N lists and summarized on a daily basis, giving approximately one week of summarized logging reports. Ourmon is customizable and allows the user to create his or her own graphs by grouping BPF expressions (as used in tcpdump) into RRDTOOL-style graphs. PF: Authpf: User Shell for Authenticating Gateways Authpf(8) is a user shell for authenticating gateways. An authenticating gateway is just like a regular network gateway (a.k.a. a router) except that users must first authenticate themselves to the gateway before it will allow traffic to pass through it. When a user's shell is set to /usr/sbin/authpf (i.e., instead of setting a user's shell to ksh(1), csh(1), etc) and the user logs in using SSH, authpf will make the necessary changes to the active pf(4) ruleset so that the user's traffic is passed through the filter and/or translated using Network Address Translation or redirection. Once the user logs out or their session is disconnected, authpf will remove any rules loaded for the user and kill any stateful connections the user has open. Sysinternals Freeware - ShareEnum An aspect of Windows NT/2000/XP network security that's often overlooked is file shares. A common security flaw occurs when users define file shares with lax security, allowing unauthorized users to see sensitive files. There are no no built-in tools to list shares viewable on a network and their security settings, but ShareEnum fills the void and allows you to lock down file shares in your network. When you run ShareEnum it uses NetBIOS enumeration to scan all the computers within the domains accessible to it, showing file and print shares and their security settings. Because only a domain adminstrator has the ability to view all network resources, ShareEnum is most effective when you run it from a domain adminstrator account. ShareEnum uses NetBIOS enumeration to scan all the computers within the domains accessible to it, showing file and print shares and their security settings. in Public bookmarkswith aspectwindows2000networksecurityoverlookedfileshares
