  (XRI Data Interchange) An emerging OASIS standard for a high-level directory, data exchange and data synchronization service on the Internet. XDI is designed to do two things: to improve searching on the Web and to provide an automatic data updating service. XDI is based on XRIs (Extensible Resource Identifiers), made up of human-friendly "e-names" and machine-oriented "e-numbers." XDI also introduces two new service organizations: "XDI registrars" for name registration and "XDI service providers" for data synchronization.
