While a reduction in the forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and the forced vital capacity (FVC) with a normal or increased FEV1-to-FVC ratio suggests a restrictive pattern, the diagnosis of restriction is based on a decreased TLC. The assessment of the severity of restriction is also based on TLC.

No clear histiologic distinction between benign and malignant thymomas exists. The propensity of a thymoma to be malignant is determined by the invasiveness of the thymoma. Malignant thymomas can invade the vasculature, lymphatics, and adjacent structures within the mediastinum.

Papillary thyroid carcinomas typically invade the lymphatics and spread to other sites within the thyroid gland, as well as to the regional lymph nodes. Lymph node metastases have been reported in the range of 46-90% of cases of papillary carcinoma. Vascular invasion is uncommon

To clarify the mechanism for reflux nephropathy to progress to irreversible or marginal renal damages, this study was conducted. We studied 57 cases of VUR in children followed-up more than 3 years after anti-reflux operation and investigated the correlation between changes of urinary protein excretion and clinical data. In general, proteinuria is the most important feature heralding a poor outcome in patients with reflux nephropathy.

Exam experience 30th April!#184592isoniazid - 05/08/07 20:11Ok folks, i've been long overdue, but I did not get free after the exam. I'm in a tough graduate course, and work in research. I had two exams right after my step1, and one more to go at the end of this week. But, I owe this to this forum. Thanks a lot, guys. Loved reading the exam experiences. Didn't read any questions on this forum, though.I'm a 2005 grad, and came to the U.S. last August on F1 visa. I got a scholarship, so I have to work in a lab., and maintain my grades in grad. school. That way, i could pay for my steps and send some money home once in a while. I started studying for Step1 in October and gave it 7months. On an average, I ended up studying 3hrs. or so in a day, but my speed is
