People with Type-1 Diabetes do not have a functioning pancreas, the organ responsible for regulating insulin levels in your body. Insulin is a hormone that regulates the metabolism of glucose (and also fats and proteins); it works by signaling, among others, fat and liver cells to absorb glucose. Blood glucose needs to remain in a fairly narrow &quot;Goldilocks&quot; zone: high levels of blood glucose can have severe long-term health consequences; low levels of blood glucose can lead to unconsciousness or even death.</description>
