There has been much backlash about Windows 7 beta and the complete lack of a "Classic" Start Menu. In just about every single forum or blog about Windows 7, there is one topic that is a much debated one, and has frequently resulted in flaming wars. On the one hand, you have users who are very happy with the new style start menu, boasting the "search" ability, and not having a huge pop-out of a directory tree, and in their eyes, making it "better". Most of this is due to people who would rather type (yes, type...) in the "search.." panel to find their programs. Some others also approve of the "all programs" being listed in the size constrained panel on the left in the start menu. Sure, that is fine and all for some (and obviously ideal for "touch" monit

Ever since I discovered that most RF electronics have an RSSI (relative signal strength) pin on them I have been finding different ways to use it to my advantage. In this case I can use them to make a diversity system for a fraction of the cost of a conventional diversity controller. Sure this requires a little more work than simply buying a diversity controller, but my controller uses less power and also allows me to power my entire base station from a single battery. Even my video glasses and recorder can be powered straight from this controller! I even put a voltage monitor on it. Now more worrying about charging multiple batteries and worrying about any one going dead.

There are 2 things you need in order to make an USB flash drive boot into DOS. The first is a boot sector, and the second are the DOS boot files. Below are the steps I used to get these onto a USB flash drive, making it possible to boot into DOS from the USB flash drive. The following steps where all done in Microsoft Windows XP in a VMware virtual machine. They should work with most other versions of MS Windows. I successfully used these steps on an USB flash drive I got at Immersion Week 2008 for use in a ZFS demo (Identifies itself as CBM). YMMV depending on USB flash drive model and manufacturer. These steps are based off of the very useful information at BootDisk.com.
