Doom9 has once again made his big codec comparison guide: "Welcome ladies and gentleman, to the main round of the 2005 codec comparison." "Just like last year, we have a new first timer: XviD AVC. Yes, you read right, the XviD team has whipped up an MPEG-4 AVC encoder which makes its testing debut right here. Because the codec is yet unreleased and still very young, I allowed a late submission, the build I tested only arrived 4Li days after the deadline, a courtesy which will of course only be extended once."

The Drupal project has released version 4.6.3 of its open-source content management platform. Drupal 4.6.3 is a maintenance release that fixes problems reported using the bug tracking system. Drupal 4.6.3 also fixes a new security vulnerability in the third-party XML-RPC library that Drupal ships with. Since the same bug is also present in the Drupal 4.5 series, Drupal 4.5.5 is released as well. If you cannot upgrade at once, we strongly suggest that you remove the xmlrpc.php file from your Drupal installation's root directory. The xmlrpc.php file is used only for Drupal to receive XML-RPC calls.

Welcome to elfURL, where we make giant URLs shorter. Some say our elves make the smallest URLs around. Our URLs are not 'tiny' but they certainly are small. Why use our elves? They provide free stats, rel-tags and del.icio.us tags – that’s why!

Mobile phone operators need to suspend their fantasies of becoming pay-per-song providers if the wireless music industry is to take off Daniel Schulman, the head of Virgin Mobile USA said. As mobile operators look to sell mobile phones with digital music players consumers should be able to freely move songs from their personal computers to these phones, he said in an interview with Reuters late last week. "I believe that ignoring the PC as an integral part of what at least the youth market accepts as its music experience is the wrong thing to do," said Schulman, the chief executive of Virgin Mobile USA, a venture of Sprint and Virgin.
