- NOAA Environmental Visualization Laboratory
Viewing Images and Video Images - The majority of the images found on the EVL website are created from NOAA satellite data, primarily the GOES and POES spacecraft. Imagery is available in JPG or PNG format in a variety of medium and high resolution formats; however some images are available for very high resolution printing. Animations and video - The EVL is constantly looking for the best way to deliver high quality digital video compatible with the major video playback architectures. We use the latest video industry standard, MPEG-4 with H.264 compression, for its compatibility in broadcast and DVD production and Flash for its universal support in internet browsers. Our video can be viewed in the latest Apple QuickTime, Windows Media, Real and MPEG-compat

- The Journey to Palomar | PBS
It has been said that George Ellery Hale did for the entire universe what Christopher Columbus did only for the Earth. Most people have never heard of Hale, but his life and work had a profound effect on the development of 20th century science in America, most notably--astronomy.\n\nThe Journey to Palomar traces the epic personal and professional quest of the Chicago-born astronomer to build the four largest telescopes of the 20th century, culminating with the 20-year effort to build the million-pound telescope on Palomar Mountain, a project considered the "moon shot" of the 1930s and 1940s.

- Travels in the Great Tree of Life - Peabody Museum at Yale
10' video "Discovering the Great Tree of Life." Biodiversity and relationships from one organism to another. Mention high technologies. Tells that Darwin was first to compare Earth's life to a tree - now called a phylogeny. GREAT animation of physical separation, mutation, and explains branching of the tree. Talk of characteristics of species in terms of morphology and DNA technologies. Discuss phylogeny in terms of experimental approach--number of solutions in building the tree for 50 species is more than the number of atoms in the universe. Development of new theory, massive amounts of data, and huge advances in computing allow us to study. Example of Reflesia, the corpse flower, which are the biggest flowers in the world. Their closest relatives are m...
