• Bay Psalm Book
  The Bay Psalm Book, as this work is commonly known, is the first book printed in British North America. Reissued in successive editions, it remained in use for more than 100 years. This copy, from the John Carter Brown Library, is one of 11 copies of the first edition known to exist and one of only four perfect copies. • Codex Gigas (Devil's Bible)
  The Codex Gigas (or Devil´s Bible) is a large 13th-century manuscript from Bohemia. Renowned for its size and its striking full-page rendition of the devil. Of special interest are the sections that testify to the Bohemian origin of the manuscript and its eventful history. At the end of the 16th century, the Codex was incorporated into the collections of Habsburg ruler Rudolph II. During the Swedish siege of Prague at the end of the Thirty Years’ War (1648), the manuscript was taken as war booty and transferred to Stockholm.

• Joshua Roll
  One of the most magnificent surviving manuscripts of the Imperial Court School of Byzantium is the Joshua Roll now kept in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana in Rome. It was made in the 10th century, at the time of the so-called Macedonian Renaissance, and presents the Old Testament Book of Joshua in an illustrated cycle resembling a frieze, executed in grisaille painting. These illustrated book rolls could well have been derived from classical triumph columns whose artistic contents were rediscovered at the time when our manuscript was made. The Joshua Roll is generally thought to go back to Greco-Roman forms and painting. • Moralized Bible for Saint Louis
  The sumptuous Bible made for Louis IX of France, who was canonized, has been known for centuries as "Biblia rica" (”rich Bible”) for its luxurious decoration. It was transferred to Toledo during the lifetime of the King (1226–1270) where for unknown reasons eight folios were taken out in the 16th century and rebound separately in leather. They have been in the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City since 1906. • The Book of Kells
  The Book of Kells is composed of two volumes, the facsimile itself and a scientific commentary, in a presentation case. The edition is limited world-wide to 1480 numbered copies of which 740 are reserved for Anglo-Saxon countries.
